Timely development of projects the likes of KBD and IDD is key to maintaining LNG balance. LNG demand grows strongly from 2.4 mmtpa in 2020 to 20 mmtpa in 2035, driven by double combination of growing gas demand and declining pipeline supply. We expect this to continue throughout the long-term with LNG demand reaching 39 mmtpa by 2040.
Indonesia's natural gas reserves are scattered in various regions as shown in Fi gure 1. Natural gas production r eached 2.99 TSCF in 2018 and is used b oth for export and to meet domes tic .
BADUNG, KOMPAS — Investment in the upstream sector oil and natural gas has increased again since 2021. However, there are still a number of challenges such as the downward trend in oil production amidst projected increases in energy demand. To achieve the production target in 2030, an investment of around 20 billion US dollars per year is needed.
Indonesia’s natural gas industry holds significant potential for further international exports as well as for the domestic market. While crude oil output has been in decline over the past decade, natural gas production has been increasing annually exceeding crude oil output in 2002 and reaching 8,460 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) in 2011 from 11 gas blocks, a 19% increase from 2001

Natural gas currently accounts for 15% of Indonesia’s total energy consumption, about 1.4 tcf per year. Total gas production is currently 2.5 tcf per year and falling. [4] The differential between production and domestic use, 900 billion cubic feet per year, is currently exported (16 mtpa) and is expected to turn negative early in the 2020s
